Acrylic on Wood, 40x60cm
These are paintings made from the shapes men leave when they piss outside on the street.
I grew up with the phrase ‘Piss Artist?’ as a common reply to any admission of wanting to be an artist; so to make these artworks with piss as the source material felt like an appropriate response. The pieces are made to look inherently abstract, yet take something that we see everyday and make it the focus of the painting. We searched for sites, documented them and isolated the shapes. Two artworks were then created from each source, the first being a precise, to the millimetre render, with the second pushed through a process of abstraction to create a stylised composition.
