Tarik Hanif is a Manchester based artist. Taking influence from his surroundings in the industrial north, he fuses the heritage of textile mills and traditional methods to create bespoke clothing. Each garment is constructed by hand from the finest sourced materials, creating one of a kind wearable items. Hanif views his garments as an extension of his work as a Painter, where in common with his clothing, hand sewn compartments designed to house flowers that can be replaced, interchanged and reconfigured, allowing for limitless and unique customisation.
The "Foundry" series takes inspiration from Tarik’s visits to industrial mills and foundries, where he observed molten metal being poured into sand moulds. This process evokes a natural, gravitational flow reminiscent of the drooping branches of a weeping willow, a concept that translates into the gestural quality of his paintings. His use of colours, influenced by the patinas of oxidised metals, adds depth and character to his work, embracing imperfection.
