The Manchester College

Stand: 127

Located in a city known for its creative spirit, The Manchester College Visual Arts Department serves students across Greater Manchester from some of the UK's most deprived areas, offering Creative Industry qualifications across specialist pathways.

Our new home, City Campus Manchester, provides a state of the art, exceptionally well-equipped learning environment which delivers an art school experience commensurate with the best facilities regionally and nationally. Learners benefit from a rich range of specialist workshops including industry-standard equipment in ceramics, jewellery, printmaking, fashion and textiles and 3D Design alongside an triple height open plan Art studio.

Future Creatives: Then and Now, a nine-year initiative and partnership with The Manchester College and Manchester Art Gallery, reflects their joint commitment to our students and alumni. The project nurtures engagement with developing ideas and practice, career growth and fostering a strong community of creatives, makers and artists. Professional development is central to this collaboration, equipping students and alumni with skills for career advancement through mentorship, workshops, and hands-on projects.

This year, Future Creatives Highlights include the It’s all about the Why! Project , which will showcase student artworks at City Campus Manchester and Manchester Art Gallery in June and July 2025.

Since 2021, the project has included a focus on the Rutherston Loans Collection (RLC) and how our current students and communities connect, value and use this collection donated to Manchester Art Gallery in1925.

This year, two of The Manchester college’s Alumni, Nehal Amir and Linda Mohammed and teacher Bettina Halpern are working closely with Manchester Art Gallery to select pieces from Manchester Contemporary Art Fair to add to the RLC.

Participation in Manchester Contemporary Art Fair, a first for the Manchester College, offers a spotlight on selected students and teachers work. Visiting the fair illuminates the impactful future careers available to our students, encouraging and preparing them for success.

This space presents a selection of work from The Manchester College’s students, teachers and alumni.
